The Estate

The house and barns are on 3.5 hectares of fields with a small amount of woodland. The house is the last house on a communal road, and 200 yards further on the enormous Tailllardine forest begins. Although mostly coniferous, it is criss-crossed with forest tracks, and is alive with wild life, streams and small rivers. Wild life seen almost daily include deer, pipistrelle bats, and hares as well as many different birds. More rarely we have seen badgers, foxes and wild boar. In the spring the wild flowers are magnificent with many orchids, wild narcissi and cowslips in the meadows. From the house there are many picturesque and well marked walks possible through the forest, with many opportunities for rock-climbing and cyclo cross, for those interested. One of the walks is the chemin de 'St Jacques la Compstelle', which meets with others at Le Puy en Velay, before going on to the Pyrenees and Spain.
